Is my data safe?

Yes. Your genetic and medical data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Data is stored in user-scoped Firebase Storage buckets — only you can access your files. We never sell your data, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising. You can delete everything at any time from your account settings.

What DNA file formats do you support?

We support raw data exports from 23andMe (.txt), AncestryDNA (.txt), Nebula Genomics (.vcf), and MyHeritage (.csv), plus generic VCF files from any sequencing lab. Is this a medical diagnosis?

No. Vogelview is an educational and informational tool. Our reports are designed to help you understand what your genetic variants and biomarkers may suggest — they are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. We use hedged language throughout ("may suggest," "tends to be associated with") to reflect the probabilistic nature of genetic and biomarker interpretation. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making any medical decisions.

How accurate are the interpretations?

Accepted Answer

Interpretations are based on curated, peer-reviewed research in our knowledge base. Each finding includes an evidence level (Established, Moderate, Preliminary, or Emerging) so you can gauge how well-supported each insight is. We do not use large language models to generate interpretations — all findings are template-driven and rule-based, which means no AI hallucinations. That said, genetic science is an evolving field, and associations may change as new research is published.

Can I delete my data?

Absolutely. You can delete your uploaded files, parsed data, and reports individually, or delete your entire account from Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and cascades through all associated records. You can also configure auto-delete to remove data after a set period (30, 90, or 365 days).

What medical tests can you interpret?

We support common blood panels (CBC, lipid panel, metabolic panel, thyroid, iron studies, HbA1c, vitamin levels), urine analysis, and hormone panels. Upload your lab PDF or enter values manually, and we will match each biomarker against curated clinical reference ranges with plain-English explanations. More panels are added regularly — if you have a specific test type in mind, contact us.

Do I need to upload my DNA AND lab tests?

No — either alone is valuable. DNA analysis and medical test interpretation are independent features. Upload just your DNA file to explore genetic variants, pharmacogenomics, and ancestry-linked traits. Upload just your lab results for a clear breakdown of your biomarkers. Uploading both lets you see cross-links where genetic variants may explain biomarker patterns, but it is entirely optional.

How is this different from 23andMe's health reports?

Accepted Answer

23andMe's health reports cover a curated set of conditions selected for their platform. Vogelview interprets your raw data with a broader, customizable scope — including pharmacogenomics (how your genes affect drug metabolism), nutritional variants, and biomarker cross-references. We also let you upload medical lab results alongside your DNA, which 23andMe does not support. Our reports use the Quote → Meaning → Impact format so each finding is immediately actionable.

What does the "Evidence Level" mean?

Every finding in your report carries an evidence level: Established (replicated in large, diverse studies — strong consensus), Moderate (supported by multiple studies but with some caveats), Preliminary (early-stage research, treat with caution), or Emerging (very new or limited data, highly exploratory). We show this so you can decide how much weight to give each insight rather than treating all findings equally.
