Continue tick prevention. Lyme vaccines are available and recommended in endemic areas.
Canine Lyme C6 antibodies: negative (0)C6 antibodies were detected, indicating exposure to Borrelia burgdorferi. Many dogs with positive Lyme tests never develop clinical signs. However, some develop Lyme nephritis (kidney disease), Lyme arthritis (shifting leg lameness), fever, or lethargy. The C6 quant test can help differentiate exposure from active infection — higher levels are more likely to indicate active disease.
If your dog has symptoms (lameness, fever, decreased appetite), treatment with doxycycline for 4 weeks is indicated. The most serious complication is Lyme nephritis, which has a poor prognosis. A urine protein:creatinine ratio is recommended for all Lyme-positive dogs to screen for kidney involvement.
