Glucose is present in your cat's urine — strongly suggestive of diabetes mellitus.

Cats have a higher kidney threshold for glucose than dogs (around 250-280 mg/dL), so glucosuria indicates significant hyperglycemia. Diabetes is very common in overweight cats, but stress hyperglycemia can rarely cause transient glucosuria.

What to do:

Your vet will measure blood glucose and fructosamine (which distinguishes stress from true diabetes). Diabetic cats can sometimes achieve remission with early insulin therapy and a low-carbohydrate diet.
